Amiglobe

Design System

International travel and exposure to diverse cultures during childhood and adolescence has been proven to make people more open minded, accepting, and empathetic. Unfortunately, the ability to readily travel and gain the benefits that come with it is unusual among Americans, as the majority have never ventured outside of the country. In fact, only about a third of the population even possesses a passport. The root of this trend has many causes, but the most significant barrier to travel is the simple fact that it is expensive and time consuming.

Amiglobe (a portmanteau of "amigo" and "globe) delivers the travel experience to middle and high school classrooms where the students cannot afford to physically leave home. Through a website and app that facilitate random meetings between students, host classroom livestreams, and provide carefully formulated lesson plans for teachers, Amiglobe makes the benefits of travel and learning about daily life in other cultures accessible to everyone.

Students and teachers can additionally order “immersion boxes” that supplement international learning with physical, sensory components that make the travel experience more authentic.
